Raymond Walters Japanangka

Raymond Walters Japanangka was born in Alice Springs in 1975. His grandfather is from Mt Allan and his grandmother from Utopia, both approximately 250-300kms from Alice Springs in the Northern Territory.

Raymond lived a traditional, remote lifestyle as a young boy residing primarily in Mount Nancy.

Raymond’s dreaming was passed down to him by his direct ancestral descendants. As a result, he paints the stories of Mountain Devil Lizard (Thorny Devil) Dreaming, Emu Tracks, Water Dreaming and Yam Dreaming.

Raymond incorporates both bold colours and highly detailed painting techniques into each of his works. When painting ‘Emu Tracks’ Raymond utilises dot work and fine lines on the canvas to accurately portray the remnants of the sacred animal.
