Maureen Baker

Maureen Baker is a talented emerging artist from the well-respected Tjungu Palya artist community in South Australia, 100kms South of Uluru (or Ayres Rock).

Tjungu Palya is set at the base of the majestic Mann Ranges in the heart of country traditionally owned by the Pitjantjatjara people.

Tjungu Palya is an Aboriginal owned and governed art enterprise. The art centre plays a vital economic role in the future sustainability of these small communities providing key employment and significant social welfare outcomes.

Maureen Baker paints Ngayuku Mamaku Ngura (My Father’s Country).

Maureen Baker’s talents gained her a place among the 22 finalists for the 2013 John Fries Memorial Prize, held at Sydney’s Gaffa Galleries.

Maureen’s strong use of bright, warm colours combined with close dot work creates a representation of her Father’s Country, which immediately captures the eye.
