Joy Maxwell Nampitjinpa

Joy was born c1960 in the Haast’s Bluff-Kintore region of Central Australia. Her father, George Maxwell Tjangala (deceased), was a founding members of Papunya Tula Artists and worked with Geoffrey Bardon and Turkey Tolson in the early 1970s. Her mother, Pantjiya Nungurrayi, is also a well respected artist.

Joy gained her painting skills and Dreaming stories from her parents and extended family. Joy’s paintings are about sacred women’s ceremonies or “Women’s Business”.
